Known around the world as ‘BARF’ (Biologically appropriate raw feeding), raw feeding aims to give cats and dogs a diet that is appropriate to their digestive systems and as close as possible to what they might have eaten as wild animals. The stomach pH in dogs and cats is much lower than that of humans, meaning they are able to break down raw meat and bone.
As a nation we adore our pets, and of course this extends to what we give them to eat. Dog Foods often promise the world, but on closer inspection many contain ingredients such as sugars, meat meals and meat derivatives.
Prey Model Raw is made up of feeding 80% Meat, 10% Bone and 10% Secreting Organ (Also known as ’80/10/10). You can also feed Whole Prey with fur and feathers included, fur and feathers are a great natural wormer and an extra source of fibre, however be cautious of any weight baring bones within the whole prey. The easiest way of making sure your dog gets a complete nutritional diet is by feeding premade complete meals but it is good to add raw meaty bones with boneless mince twice a week as this will ensure great oral health. The boneless mince is used to correct the Bone to Meat ratio, if you find your pets stools are white and crumbly this indicates too much bone, you can add some more boneless to their diet in order to correct the ratio.
